Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Oatmeal has been one of my favorite foods ever since I was a little girl.

Before school I would make a hot bowl of Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal every single day. As I got older I altered my eating to enjoy a plain bowl of oatmeal with some honey and cinnamon. And when I became gluten free, I had to say goodbye to oats, oatmeal, oatmeal raisin cookies, oatmeal crunchy crust on banana bread, and goodbye to a happiness.

I missed oatmeal cookies the most. Often times people who are gluten free cheat their body with gluteny pizza, doughnuts…. but not me, I’d cheat with gluten free cookies at a dinner party.

A few years back I was in Yoga Teacher Training and I learned something crucial about my own body (and for every-body). It was about the correlation of metal health and stability with the digestive tract.

Turns out that when your mental health is low (constantly running in survival mode), or rest is low, or overall wellbeing is low, your digestive tract is the first place that takes a hit.

Your body begins to redistribute important functions, and digesting a meal is non-priority to you’re body’s primitive survival.

So…. coming back to oatmeal cookies, if one’s mind is healthy, one’s digestive fire is strong, and therefore… OATMEAL COOKIES!

I worked hard to get my brain back to my body&heart, and after a few years of gut-rebuilding and mental health work, I was able to happily stomach oats again!
